Jakarta, January 17-18, 2023
The Institute for Economic and Social Research, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (LPEM FEB UI) has organized the inaugural workshop of the Climate Modeling and Policy Hub (I-CLIMB) series of activities. The event was held offline on January 17-18, 2022, at Pullman Hotel Jakarta.
The workshop was attended by representatives from various member institutions, including the Institute for Sustainable Earth and Resources (I-SER); Australian National University; Center for International Forestry Research (Cifor); Center for Global Sustainability, University of Maryland; Research Cluster on Energy Modeling and Regional Economic Analysis, FEB UI; National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN); Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS); SMERU Research Institute; Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR); Indonesia Research Institute for Decarbonization (IRID); Bank Indonesia Institute; Mandiri Institute; Danareksa Institute; SDGs Hub UI; ClimateWorks; and J-PAL Southeast Asia. The purpose of this event was to discuss the objectives, governance, and potential activities to be undertaken by the Climate Modelling and Policy Hub, as well as to continue the discussions from the previous series of discussions. Through this workshop, four main activities of the Climate Modelling and Policy Hub were agreed upon: Exchange platform, Capacity Building Platform, Modeling, and Networking. In general, the Hub has four main objectives, namely:
- Creating a strategic discussion forum on the needs and priorities of modeling with the goal of creating better and more accessible information.
- Promoting accountability and transparency regarding the specifications, scenarios, data, and parameters used in climate modeling.
- Developing in-house activities in developing climate, energy, and economic models to promote open-source modeling.
- Promoting optimization, enhancement, and more effective targeting for climate modeling to gain policy insights.
In conclusion, at the end of the session, it was also agreed that LPEM FEB UI would be appointed as the host of the I-CLIMB for the next two years of management. As a follow-up to the inaugural workshop, the next activities are to conceptualize in-house activities and governance of the Hub’s management in more detail.
